Today I will be reviewing the book Losing YOU by author P j Haynie.
Synopsis: In a run-down bar in the heart of Denver sits a broken-hearted woman whose sabotaging actions have left her with lots of questions and no one to turn to for answers - until an irritating, snarky, and equally broken-hearted man attempts to befriend her. Despite his blunt and overbearing demeanor, he appears to know exactly what her heart needs.
Don't run away now the synopsis has gotten you hooked on the book, you still need to read my review :)
Generally the self pitying characters aren't for me but the way PJ has written Alexis in a way that her self pity is comical, self depreciating and sarcastic which immediately drew me to Alexis, let's face it who hasn't been like that at some point when there has been a fight with their partner?
Because we have been there at some point it makes Alexis relatable which EVERY character in ANY book needs to be and because she is relatable it makes the book an even more interesting, quicker and easier read.
Now let's talk about that irritating, snarky, broken hearted man John!
We all NEED him in our lives when we are screwing up our relationships or pushing away the one we love for no good reason because he gives it to you straight, like an old western sharp shooter.
Not only that he tells you what you DON'T want to hear and that makes Alexis think, it makes her think about love, life and if what she did is really something that can't be fixed.
John for me was the character I liked best because of his snarky attitude, his don't give a flying rats tail approach and because he gave the girl the sharp dose of reality needed!
Now we have discussed two of the characters let's talk about the writing style.
It was consistent, fast paced, to the point, there was no needless plot/sub text etc which can always drag a book down and the plot was so relatable to real life...... the ending however ah we can all only wish that every fight had a happy ending but then it wouldn't take us away from our problems if it was exactly like real life.
I give the author's book the following ratings.
Plot: 10/10
Characters: 10/10
Writing style: 10/10
Cover: 8/10
Pricing: 10/10
Entire package: 10/10
